408111 Mod Features Upgrades

Project details

Hi,

First of all to say that we would like to get somebody for long term relations and not somebody that is going to bleed us dry of cash on one time basis. We got devs that have been working on this web site for 5 years and they can do that project fast and effective at probably 4-500. While they’re busy with another project, I wanted to try to get somebody as good and fair as them to expand the dev team. Price is flexible but am looking for somebody on that range. If done proper and on time, and fair price, I will have ongoing flow of projects for you.

Working in SVN is required.

So about the project (will provide access via PMs):

Each game genre needs to have unique file sub categories. We must have these added in ADMIN > SETTINGS somewhere so we can edit those values / add / remove entries at any time.

This will affect both our admin file upload tools, as well as members upload tools.

Admin upload tools/forms to be changed:

[url removed, login to view] (form is on the bottom)

[url removed, login to view]

Member upload form to be changed:

[url removed, login to view]

We will need a new drop down menu for those categories. In admin, the form needs to offer the Mods categories that fall under the genre of the game selected. So this must be automated. So as soon as we visit any of the game pages where we’re adding a file to, it will offer the mod categories for that genre.

Likewise, pages where you first need to input the game name (both admin and member links above) will have to be automated in a way that when you type in the game name, and leave it, the db will auto find that game, and THEN roll in the form for Mod Category.

So here is the list of all the genres, and hence their Mods and Maps categories.

MAPS CATEGORIES¶

We will have simple map categories for all genres:

1 Player

1-2 Players

1-3 Players

1-4 Players

1-5 Players

1-6 Players

1-7 Players

1-8 Players

1-9 Players

1-10 Players

1-15 Players

1-20 Players

1-30 Players

1-40 Players

1-50 Players

1-100 Players

First of all, we MUST use the same URL structure as categories have it now. And the same system / language.

Second, we will need to flush out / delete ALL the current categories. As these new categories will overwrite them completely, and we will have to readd them all from scratch.

Thirdly, the current category system (even though it is no longer present in admin file forms) has CATEGORY and SUB CATEGORY. We will no longer use the SUB CATEGORY, but only the main CATEGORY level for files.

Only MODS and MAPS have categories. So for instances patches do not as you can see here: [url removed, login to view] It can remain showing “No file categories available”

So take a look at: [url removed, login to view]

The system for the table to calculate number of files and their downloads, size, date updated is already in place. So, we just need these new categories set.

The listing of categories MUST show ONLY the categories that have at least 1 file. Categories that don’t have any files assigned to them are not to be shown. Also, the list must be sorted to show in the same order as the listing written on [url removed, login to view]

For the extra twist, we need this done.

So, the goal is to have our visitors submit categories for files so we could have an easier time managing them. So on the pre-last downloads page ([url removed, login to view]) we need a new tool that will appear as a text link (“help us categorize this mod”; or “…map”), and upon click, it will offer a drop down menu where they will be able to pick one of the categories.

What happens next: When they click on any category, the system will automatically send an email to pr ATT [url removed, login to view] with the subject of “File Categorization on Strategy Informer”. The email will look like the following:

NEW FILE CATEGORIZATION

APPROVE CHANGE: [URL link to file admin page where the user entry will automatically be saved; for quick approvals]

INSPECT FILE: [URL to admin entry of that file for manual selection; example: [url removed, login to view]]

* MEMBER DETAILS //(if by a logged in member; otherwise simply blank values)//

E-mail:

* FILE DETAILS

Game Name:

File Name:

Size:

Download Title:

Description:

Readme:

For start, we will let everybody use this feature. Members and non-members.

Now important last requierment is that once an admin accepts / adds the category for any file, the “help us categorize this mod” feature link will be instantly replaced with the category itself. The category will have a link that will lead to the URL of that category for that game. To list all those mods / maps under that category.

So this will also work for MAPS. Only mod word changes to map of course, and the category listing will show either map categories, or mod > genre > categories.

Attached is the RAR’d PSD file where you can see the window that should popup. Please keep a note to ignore te left vertical menu as it is part of the new design/layout that we will be doing next. So only watch for that top middle content area. The game name is added, and download name.
