Improve page loading speed

As you can see, the issue on my website (). It is a custom wordpress site and loads ads on the left hand menu from ALL categories. I need to improve the page loading speed either by (a) implementing proper image optimization or (b) reducing the number of ads by loading only one (first) category only.
